Guyana Defence Force FC becomes champion of KFC Elite League

Guyana Defence Force Football Club won the KFC Elite League Cup 2023 followed by the Western Tigers Football Club and Guyana Police Force Football Club being the first and second runners-up of the tournament.

Guyana Defence Force Football Club won the KFC Elite League Cup 2023 followed by the Western Tigers Football Club and Guyana Police Force Football Club being the first and second runners-up of the tournament.

Notably, the winner of the tournament, Guyana Defence Force Football Club defeated Western Tigers Football Club on a penalty to take the winner’s trophy of the KFC Elite League Cup on Monday, 1 January 2024.

It is to be noted, that many substitutions were made by both the teams when the final whistle blew and the overtime concluded. However, the scoreboard still remained at 0-0 and the winner of the game was decided on the basis of penalty shootouts.

The winner celebrated their victory by triumphing over the Western Tigers following an 8-7 penalty shootout at the Eve Leary Sports Ground in Kingston, Georgetown.

Moreover, the excellent performance was portrayed by both the teams and displayed a game filled with a lot of entertainment and thrill.

The game for the third place was held between Buxton United Football Club and Guyana Police Force Football at the same ground. The game was won by Guyana Police Force Football Club by a score od 3-0. The goal scorers from the team were Pernel Schultz 61’, Neron 64’ and Nicholas McArthur 86’. Meanwhile, no player from Buxton United Football Club was able to score a goal for their team.

Further, few players were awarded for their excellent performance and contribution throughout the KFC Guyana Elite League Cup.

The award for the best Goalkeeper was won by Jamaine Cumberbatch of Guyana Defence Force Football Club. Randolph Wagner of Western Tigers Football Club was awarded with the Top Goal Scorer award. Wagner scored the maximum no of goals and left a trail of goals and glory in the entire tournament i.e. 9.

The award for the Most Valuable Player was received by the player of Guyana Defence Force Football Club, Chris Macey, for his incredible performances throughout the tournament.

The Guyana Football Federation extended their special thanks to the officials of the match who ensured the fairness and integrity of the game. They stated that “they appreciate their hard work both on and off the field. Their expertise and unwavering commitment made every match a true testament to the spirit of sportsmanship.”

They also acknowledged the unwavering support and passion of the fans, which fuelled the spirit of every team member.
