Guyana Amazon Warriors to play its 7th CPL Final defeating Barbados Royals by 8 Wickets

The defending Champions, Guyana Amazon Warriors, are all set to play in its 7th Caribbean Premier League final, this time against Saint Lucia Kings, aiming to hold on to their title at the National Providence Stadium of Guyana. The Warriors defeated Barbados Royals by 8 wickets with 33 balls left and marched their way into the finals of the CPL 2024.

The match began with Guyana Amazon Warriors winning the toss and deciding to bowl first. The batting section of the Barbados Royals miserably failed to play good knocks for the team as their wickets continued to fall. Quinton de Kock, Rahkeem Cornwall, Alick Athanae, Kadeem Alleyne and Rovman Powell managed to contribute only 15, 19, 26, 11 and 12 runs respectively.

David Miller tried to pull the strings in favour, hitting 2 sixes and 2 fours, playing at an incredible 138.46 strike rate. The way he was going with the bat raised hope among the Royals fans, but that also failed to sustain for long as he was caught out by Shimron Hetmyer in an impressive delivery by Dwaine Pretorius, scoring 36 runs in just 26 balls.

The bowling section of Guyana Amazon Warriors was outstanding throughout the first half as they were successfully able to restrict the Royals in 148 runs in 20 overs with all wickets down. Gudakesh Motie began the stride which was followed by every bowler of the Warriors, as they all got at least 1 wicket to their respective bags.

Moreover, Rahmanullah Gurbaz gave a massive start to the team and made a perfect platform for the Warriors to chase it down. He enjoyed the battle against the pacers as the team ended with 72 runs in the powerplay.His innings just ended every chance for the Royals to stay in the game.

On the other hand, Moeen Ali also made the job easier for the team by knocking it around, scoring unbeaten 44 runs in 35 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours. These knocks by the players made it easier for the Warriors to chase down the target in just 14.3 overs, scoring 149 runs with the loss of only 2 wickets.

Following the match, Imran Tahir, the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors expressed excitement and stated “I want to run around, I want to give everything what I have in me for this team and this beautiful nation.”

Moeen Ali, the Player of the Match stated that he wanted to do the job for the team and got lucky with two wickets. While shedding light on his batting, he noted that he just tried to play good shots and bat as much as he can in order to lead his team towards victory.

The winner of Qualifier 2, Guyana Amazon Warriors is all set to clash against Saint Lucia Kings in the finals and it would be a thrilling cash as both the teams will be aiming to win the title of the winner of CPL 2024.
