Grenada appoints Seville Francis as Parliamentary Secretary in Youth and Sports Ministry

The Government of Grenada appointed the newest member of the Senate in the Parliament of Grenada, Seville M.C. Francis. She will serve as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports and has replaced Jonathan LaCrette, who was removed from the position.

Jonathan LaCrette was revoked by the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell on loss of confidence grounds. The Prime Minister noted that LaCrette was involved in such incidents during the past 24 months that were not in the best interest of the citizens of the country.

Therefore, after his removal, now Seville Francis has been appointed who sworn in on Wednesday, August 28 by Deputy to the Governor General and former Prime Minister Tillman Thomas.

Francis is an advocate for social change and community development and has always been committed to enhancing the lives of marginalized populations in Grenada. And, for the same he has partnered with several NGOs, community-based organizations, and government ministries to amplify marginalized voices.

The organizations she has served includes Telecommunication Chairperson for NaDMA (St. Patrick’s West District), being a member of the Friends of the Mentally Ill Grenada and a member of Caribbean Women in Leadership.

She has always stand as a firm for the underprivileged community and has addressed their needs by hearing and respecting their voices. She has always treated everyone equally with a vision to promote long-term sustainability and empowerment.

She has also been a past member of the St. Patrick Organization for Development and other non-profit groups. She has raised out several issues and has always worked for the welfare of the people.

The critical issues addressed by her include gender-based violence, violence against women and girls, suicide prevention, HIV & STI prevention, sexual abuse, mental health, and many others.

Moreover, Francis has represented Grenada at the United Nations Best Diplomats Diplomatic Simulation Conference in Malaysia, where she earned several awards for conducting discussions on the disarmament of nuclear weapons and providing solutions for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

Additionally, she participated in an international program in China that focused on poverty alleviation and social security, further broadening her understanding of global challenges and solutions.

And, with her election as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Youth and Sports, she promised to always fulfil her commitments and work for the development of the nation. She also promised to pave every way with courage and conviction. She stated that she will make all the efforts to stand firm in what is right and let her voice be a beacon of integrity and justice.

Also recently, few days ago, the newly appointed Senator, Seville Francis officially launched her foundation called the “Chrysalis Initiative.” This foundation aims to empower young minds and recognizes the extraordinary determination and resilience of the youth of the country.

Francis noted that she is all set to contribute to matters of national interest and take stringent decisions for the betterment of the nation.
