Two men and two women were apprehended by the authorities of Trinidad and Tobago for the offense of possessing firearms and ammunition during an anti-crime/road traffic exercise. The exercise was conducted by officers between 10 pm on Friday, December 15, and 2 am on Saturday, December 16, 2023, in the Arima district.

Notably, officials were conducting a routine road traffic exercise along the Churchill – Roosevelt Highway in the area near the Cumuto intersection when they had to stop and search a silver Nissan Tiida vehicle.

While conducting the search of the vehicle, the authorities found one silver Beretta nine-millimetre pistol and discovered three rounds of ammunition.

Therefore, four people were apprehended in connection with the find; the occupants include:

The male driver, a 25-year-old resident of Santa Rose Heights, Arima.
Another male occupant, a 24-year-old resident of Cocorite Road, Arima.
A woman, a 22-year-old resident of Santa Rose Heights, Arima.
Another woman, a 23-year-old resident of Wallerfield.
These four people were arrested by police personnel and taken to the police station for further investigation.

Moreover, one more search exercise was conducted by Eastern Division officers on the same day, and their investigation led to the discovery of a gun, ammunition, and marijuana.

Police personnel conducted a joint roving exercise on Saturday between 9 am and 3 pm in the Valencia Police District when officials received a report of a domestic dispute.

As soon as the officers received the news, they responded to the matter and reached the Valencia home; the officers observed a man who was known to them.

When the man noticed the personnel, he tried to run away, but the officers gave him a chase. It is alleged that through an open doorway, the man entered the house and took up a knapsack.

The suspect then turned around hastily with the knapsack in hand, but he dropped it and escaped from the area.

When the officials investigated the knapsack, they found one AR rifle equipped with a scope, 66 rounds of assorted ammunition, 14 clear parcels, a magazine loader, and 15 foil packets, each containing cannabis. On weighing the cannabis, it weighed equal to 477 grams.

It is to be noted that the authorities of Valencia Criminal Investigations Department are continuing the investigation, and it is expected that the man will soon be apprehended and charged for the findings.
