“Eye of fire” in Gulf of Mexico as gas pipeline ruptures

Mexico’s state oil company Pemex had reported that the incident might have occurred due to a rupture in an undersea gas pipeline under the Gulf of Mexico, carrying flames bubbling to the surface in the Gulf waters.

The flames of bright orange bubbling out of water looks like molten lava that was called the “eye of fire” on social media because of its blaze’s circular shape. This incident took place a short distance from a Pemex oil platform. This fire was put out now. According to Pemex, it took 5 hours to put out the fire.

The fire started from an underwater pipeline that attaches to a platform at Pemex’s flagship Ku Maloob Zaap oil development, which has told the company’s most important, Ku Maloob Zaap, has been located just up from the south side of the Gulf of Mexico.

According to the statement by Pemex, they have not undergone any life casualties. The company also highlighted that the production had not been affected by the gas leakage. Pemex reported that the fire ignited around 5:15 a.m., and by 10:30 a.m, the fire was completely extinguished.

The company reported that they would be investigating it would investigate the cause of the fire. This incident which has a long record of major industrial accidents at its facilities, the company also reported that it also shut the valves of the 12-inch-diameter pipeline.
Ku Maloob Zaap is Pemex’s biggest crude oil producer, accounting for more than 40% of its nearly 1.7 million barrels of daily output.

As per the Pemex incident report shared, “Ku Maloob Zaap’s turbomachinery active production facilities were impacted by an electrical storm and heavy rains.”

The report further stated that workers of the company used nitrogen to control the flames of fire. The company did not immediately react to the request for comment, and the details of the incident report were also not mentioned in the brief statement of Pemex’s.
