Dominica: PM Skerrit meets PAHO Director Dr Etienne amid her tour

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, on April 22, 2022 (Friday), had an interaction with the Director of Pan American Health Organisation (PAHO) – Dr Carissa Etienne. Currently, Etienne is on tour to Dominica and has been leading the delegation to Dominica this week.
“Today morning, I met with the Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Dr Carissa Etienne, who is leading a delegation to Dominica this week,” Prime Minister stated while informing about his latest visit.
He further informed that the “PAHO team is here to conduct a retreat with the Ministry of Health, Wellness and New Health Investment to assist with the development of a strategic plan for the more effective delivery of healthcare in Dominica, among other activities”.
PM Skerrit further took the platform as an opportunity to thank the director of PAHO for her leadership during the harsh times of the COVID-19 pandemic. He also praised the organization for supporting the health system of the Caribbean country, especially Dominica.
He stated that PAHO had assisted the health system through training, mobilization of resources as well as technical assistance.
“I took the opportunity to thank Dr Etienne for her exceptional leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and for PAHO’s continuing support of our health system through training, mobilization of resources and technical assistance,” PM Skerrit added.
During the visit to Nature Island of the Caribbean, Dr Etienne was accompanied by Dr Godfrey Xuereb, who is Head of Country and Subregional Cooperation at PAHO, and Country Program Officer for Dominica – Ms Anneke Wilson.
Prime Minister Skerrit visited the Flower Show site in Giraudel; he was accompanied by Parliamentary Representative for Roseau South, Chekira Lockhart Hypolite.
The preparations in the flower site are underway, and the show will return in October 2022. PM Skerrit further pledges that the Government would make the Flower Show a success and create year-round economic activity.
