Georgetown, Guyana: Former Guyanese and West Indian Cricketer Clyde Butts died in a vehicular accident at Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) on Friday.
Reportedly, the accident occurred at around 15:15 hours during the afternoon on December 8 at the junction of Eccles Industrial Site Road and First Access Road (West of the roundabout on the Southern Side of Eccles Industrial Site Road).
Details of the accident
– It is to be noted that the accident involved motor Lorry GAC 7592, which is owned and driven by Lloyd Gunraj, a 41-year-old of Bartica
– Christopher Comacho, a 22-year-old of Lamaha and Waterloo Street, Georgetown, was driving motor van GAE 8844
– Motor car PTT 66, driven by Clyde Butts, the 66-year-old cricketer of Lot 1655 Plot B Herstelling, EBD
Notably, enquiries disclosed that when the alleged driver approached the first access road, he saw motor car PTT 66 proceeding north along the access road while the lorry was moving west along the southern drive of the Eccles Industrial Site Road.
It is to be added in the remarks of the lorry driver that Butts failed to stop and process on Eccles and caught up in his path. As soon as the driver witnessed this, he stated that he pulled onto the northern driver lane to avoid a collapse.
However, despite his many efforts, the front of the lorry unfortunately collided with the centre portion of the car and pushed it onto the northern carriageway.
The terrifying moment further struck motor van GAE 8844, which was going east along the southern drive lane.
Shockingly, all three of the vehicles were terribly damaged, and the driver of the motor car (Butts) received injuries as a result of the collision.
He was immediately pulled out of the car by the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), placed in an Ambulance, and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Notably, the doctor on duty examined his wounds, but his body was not reacting, and as a result, he was declared dead.
Notices of deliberate prosecution were served on the driver, both of whom are in custody assisting with the investigation.
Additionally, last month, a 19-year-old lost his life in a fatal accident in Guyana on November 5, 2023. As per reports, a resident of Agricultural Road, Mahendra Surujpersuad, was involved in the accident while driving a Motor Lorry GAD 6445.
It is to be noted that the car collided with a pole beside the western parapet, which resulted in everybody sitting in the car being thrown out of the vehicle and onto the western parapet.
A 19-year-old boy was declared dead by the doctors on duty when he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
