Budget 2022/23: “This Airport will be a game-changer for Dominica,” says PM Roosevelt Skerrit

Dominica: Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit presented billion dollars budget in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Dominica on July 26, 2022. During addressing the parliament, the Prime Minister highlighted the work proceeding at the construction site of the International Airport of Dominica.

Prime Minister Skerrit emphasized that the International Airport will be completed and operational by 2026. He also termed this project one of the major projects. He stated, “The work on the International Airport has commenced, and major project will be delivered to the general public of Dominica by 2026. We have selected the right partner to ensure that this becomes a reality.”

PM Skerrit announced that during this Fiscal Year, we look forward to the following key milestones:

• The completion of mobilization for the beginning of work,
• Cut as well as fill activities to level the site
• Construction of culverts for waterways;
• Commencing earthworks by the end of 2022.

The establishment of this Airport will increase opportunities for contractors, engineers, plumbers, construction workers, electricians, and other service providers. Prime Minister stated that this Airport would be a game changer for Dominica and its people.

Prime Minister Skerrit stated, “I would like to call on the residents and citizens of Dominica to equip themselves for the opportunities which would be available at the Airport once it is operational.”

He added, “I encourage the students to start pursuing relevant fields of study that will position them to take advantage of employment opportunities, such as air traffic controllers, fire-fighters, customs, specialized equipment maintenance personnel, immigration, and security officers, among others.”
