Attorney Benjamin was a legal luminary with a legacy transverse over decades. His impact reached far beyond the courtroom. The legal community of St Kitts and Anguilla is mourning the loss of a distinguished figure.

Beginning of Legal Adventures

Over a decade ago, on Friday, September 20, 2013, a legal titan marked a glorious moment in the life and legal practice in St Kitts as he made a revitalized journey to Anguilla.

Notably, he established the highly successful Caribbean Juris Chambers there, and his route could have led him to a unique flight path as he was visualized as an Anglican Priest by his grandmother. However, due to some circumstances, his destiny took him to England to study law.

Enroute to Legal Legacy

Benjamin spent a few years in St Kitts before arriving in Anguilla, where he served as a community worker and youth worker. He studied at the University of Warwick in Coventry, which led to the foundation of his legal career.

His success was marked by humility and dedication. Benjamin secured a scholarship to attend the Norman Manley Law School in Jamaica, setting the stage for his return to St Kitts and, later, his establishment in Anguilla.

Key Achievements of John Benjamin

Attorney Benjamin earned dignity as a disciplinarian committed to upholding the letter of the law and the duties of lawyers.

Notably, his eminent career included serving as Acting High Court Judge of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court on the three events, with remarkable stints in Nevis, Montserrat and St Kitts.

Recently, he was appointed as the Queen’s Counsel in February of the same year, further marking his contributions to the legal realm.

Legacy beyond the Courtroom

Further on his legal accomplishments, the Attorney was also considered as a community figure- serving as a Past President of Rotary International, Anguilla as a President of the Anguilla Chamber of Commerce from 1987-88.

His impact resonated with the ones who provided him help in establishing his practice and welcomed him to Anguilla in 1983.

As the legal fraternity bids farewell to this legal Titan, St Kitts extended gratitude to the legacy of John Benjamin KC, a man whose life’s work has left an incredible mark on the legal landscape and the hearts of those who knew him.
