Tigray, Ethiopia: The world is celebrating International Women’s Day, but women in Tigray are witnessing the most horrifying face of humans. A woman in Tigray has been raped by 23 Eritrean soldiers, and doctors have to eradicate nails and stones from her genitals.
Not only women but thousands of men have been killed in Tigray too. People are slaughtered like animals, and the massacre of humanity has been observed.
What is happening in Tigray?
Antagonism started when regime troops invaded the region after the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the country’s ruling party, ambushed the army’s Northern Command. According to the TPLF, the ambush was meant to preempt an intended military strike by the region’s authority, although there is a lack of explicit confirmation.
In addition to the Ethiopian National Defense Forces and the TPLF, Amhara specific forces and militia and Eritrean troops entered the armed dispute in November. They are fighting alongside Ethiopian federal troops against soldiers affiliated with the TPLF.
The administration declared victory and the end of antagonism at the end of November, but clashes are ongoing in various areas. Ethiopian authorities insist the clashes are “sporadic” and that the interim administration has been authenticated successfully in most districts.
Reality hits hard
However, on the ground, people tell a different and terrible story which can compel you all to contemplate humanity exists or not? The ongoing clashes are hindering the civilians. Local translators associated with foreign media have been arrested for transferring the respective news. They have been intimidated and undergone several threats.
Invasion of Eritrean soldiers
Eritrean soldiers later entered the city of Azeba about 30 kilometers (less than 20 miles) from Adigrat and initiated fire on civilians on market day.
A Twitter user tweeted, “This war on #Tigrayans is not political at all. It’s a Pre-planned War, The peace deal between #eritrea and #Ethiopia was a preparation for such a time as this. Name-calling by both sides “Agame” by Eritreans and “Junta” by Ethiopians.”
Another source revealed, “thousands of innocent #Tigrayans are killed by #EritreanTroops daily, and time is running out.”
” Amhara Militias killed 80 Tigray|ans & threw their bodies into Tekeze river & 40 women’s Raped in single day in Mekelle,” Twitter user disclosed.
The killing of civilians every day is a threat and a reason to increment their fear towards the troops. Both Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch verified that Eritrean soldiers brutally murdered many hundred men in the town of Axum last November.
On Thursday, the UN’s Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet addressed a statement “reports of grave human rights violations and abuses.” Civilians from Mekele and Central and Northern Tigray stated both Ethiopian and Eritrean defense forces were the reason behind the killings and rapes.
More than half a million population have already fled their homes, taking refuge in towns such as the Shire or the regional capital Mekele, where they converted at least eight schools into displacement camps.
The Ethiopian administration maintains that it has distributed food items to 3.8 million individuals and spent 1.87 billion Ethiopian Birr ($46.5 million) on Tigray’s humanitarian assistance.
Many NGOs have come forward to eradicate the violation and lend their helping hands to the people. But for weeks, international NGOs are not allowed in the town. UN and the US demanded Eritrean soldiers to leave Ethiopia immediately.
