56-year-old killed in fatal accident at Rupertee Access Trail

Georgetown, Guyana: Charles Dookram, a 56-year-old, was killed in an accident at Rupertee Access Trail, Region 9, on Sunday.
Notably, a fatal incident occurred between 03:45 hours and 04:00 hours in the morning near North Rupununi. The incident involved a motorcycle that had no registration number.
Further, the motorcycle was driven by Alivius Junior John, a 22-year-old labourer of Annai Village and pedestrian Charles Dookram, who was an unemployed man from Aranaputa of North Rupununi.
While sleeping at home, Wesley Roberts- who was the Vice Chairman of the Rupertee Community Policing Group and a resident of Rupertee Village heard a loud noise in the vicinity of his home.
Roberts hurriedly came out of his home to check what was happening outside, and he saw that somebody was lying on the roadway in an unconscious state. He stepped forward to a person and discovered Dookram, who had injuries on his head and body.
It is to be noted that the motorcycle was not far from him, along with the rider, Alivius John.
Noting this, he immediately picked up the pedestrian and other public-spirited individuals and took them to the Annai Health Centre, where he was seen and examined by a doctor on duty.
The doctor referred him to the Lethem Regional Hospital by ambulance. While receiving medical attention at about 09:35 hours, doctors declared him dead.
Moreover, the motorcyclist fled from the accident scene. However, he was later arrested by the ranks and placed in police custody.
Investigation of the matter is ongoing, and several questions have been asked from the suspect.
As soon as this news circulated on social media platforms, many people extended their condolences to the victim through their official Facebook handles.
One person by the name of Savitri Latchmiah wrote, “Very sad Rip condolences to the family.”
While reacting to the post, a person named Audrey Augustin commented, “My most sincere condolences to the family and friends. May his soul rest in peace.”
Additionally, a few days ago, a former Guyanese and West Indies Cricketer Clyde Butts died in a vehicular accident at Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara (EBD) on December 8, 2023.
The accident involved motor Lorry GAC 7592, which is owned and driven by Lloyd Gunraj, a 41-year-old of Bartica.
Enquiries disclosed that when the alleged driver approached the first access road, he saw motor car PTT 66 proceeding north along the access road while the lorry was moving west along the southern drive of Eccles Industrial Site Road.
Notably, Butts failed to stop the vehicle and the front of the lorry unfortunately collided with the centre portion of the car and pushed it onto the northern carriageway.
Butts was taken to the hospital but unfortunately, he couldn’t survive.
