300 new COVID cases registered in Barbados

Barbados reported a total of 300 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 125 males and 175 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 9,823 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 5 October 2021.

Barbados: Barbados reported a total of 300 new cases of the COVID-19 mutant, comprising 125 males and 175 females. So far, the island has reported a total of 9,823 confirmed cases of the deadliest mutant, according to the health ministry’s report till 5 October 2021.

As per to the report, there are 803 individuals who are in isolation till 5 October 2021, while one individual lost life to the COVID-19 mutant.

One death that was reported in the island country was of a 91-year-old woman.

With these additional deaths, the toll of people who scummed to contagious COVID-19 outbreak has risen to 85.

Since the pandemic started in the island country, that is – in March 2020, Barbados has reported a total of 9,823 cases (4,782 males and 5,041 females). The public health laboratory has performed 331,622 tests.

Barbados COVID-19 situation reports further states that so far, a total of 139,644 individuals have received their first jab of the COVID-19 vaccine, while a total of 108,963 individuals that is 40.2 per cent of the population, has received their second shot of the vaccine and are now fully vaccinated against the deadly virus.

Out of the 300 new cases registered, 50 out of them are under 18 years, and 250 individuals are 18 years older or above.

Prime Minister – Mia Amor Mottley, along with the health ministry, is urging the citizens to abide by the COVID-19 protocols/measures such as – wearing masks, sanitizing frequently and maintaining a social distance.

She also urged the Barbadians to take their jabs of the vaccine as soon as possible so as to decrease the chances of transmission and assist the nation in achieving its target of herd immunity.
