In Dominica, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit informed the citizens that there had been continuous development in the Geothermal Development project. In Roseau valley, the work on this project has been fastened for the past one year.
While informing about the development of the project to the citizens of Dominica, PM Skerrit said that 2 additional wells that were supposed to be built in Laudat are in progress.
The Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said that this includes the civil works for access roads and well pads, due to which a contract of amount $ 9 million has been granted to ACE Engineering Ltd. During the month of May 2021.
For building the 10 MW plant, PM Skerrit informed that the Dominican government has reached at an advanced stage for selecting an Engineering Procurement and Construction.
PM Skerrit informed that the development of the power plant is expected to finish negotiations by the end of month September of the current year, and then shortly he would issue a notice to continue with the construction, which would reasonably take 18 months after the notice would be given.
Higher voltage transmission lines would be needed for carrying the power from the geothermal power plant in Laudat to the main load situated at centres in Fond Cole and Sugar Loaf, and to develop the new network, the Dominican government has been working closely with DOMLEC and the Independent Regulatory Commission.
The government of the Commonwealth of Dominica had launched E-passport. Citizens who have not applied for the passport yet can now wait for the new version to arrive. The new features in this E-passport would include Laser engraved data page, spark OVI and Biometric system facial recognition.
The government said that those who had already applied for their Dominican passport could choose to wait for a biometric one, and those applying for passport renewal would now be issued the new version of the passport. The procedure for changing old passports to the new biometric passport would be circulated.
