WASA: North East Trinidad to experience water supply interruption

WASA shared that the people of North East Trinidad will experience an interruption in their water supply, served by the North Oropouche Water Treatment Plant on January 23, 2024.

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: WASA shared that the people of North East Trinidad will experience an interruption in their water supply on January 23, 2024. They are served by the North Oropouche Water Treatment Plant.

The information has been shared by the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) through their official social media handle (Facebook). The interruption is the result of the planned maintenance work in the area by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC).

Noting this, the work will disturb the electricity supply to the facility between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. The areas which are going to be affected by the T&TEC work are as follows,

– Sangre Chiquito

– Sangre Grande (Town)

– Malabar Phases 1,3 & 4

– Guaico/ Guaico Tamana

– Coalmine

– La Horquetta

– Carapo /O’ Meare Road

– Sunrise Park

– Golden Grove Road

– Signature Park/ Mausica Road

– Maloney Gardens

– Five Rivers

– Millenium Park

– San Rafael

– Brazil

According to established water supply schedules, the customers are also advised that after the plant restarts, it may take up to forty-eight hours (48 hours) for service to return to normal in some affected areas.

WASA further stated that limited truck-borne service will be available upon request. This can be requested through the following self-service options such as

  1. Use of the Customer Portal available on the Authority’s website wasa.gov.tt.
  2. People may use the mobile WASA Services App, which can be downloaded for Android mobile customers from the Play Store or for iPhone mobile customers from the Apple Store.
  3. Customers can make use of direct assistance or can call WASA’s Customer Call Centre toll-free number.

Additionally, many people across the affected region took to their official Facebook accounts to express their concerns and frustration regarding the interruption of the water supply in their areas.

While reacting to the post, a person named Crystal Kowlessar wrote, “The water is very brown most of the time. This is very annoying, we can’t use the water for anything at all; it’s almost like we don’t have water.”

Another FB user, by the name of Atash Mohansingh commented, “One of the few developed countries where we have water flooding our cities and homes but none in the pipes.”

Moreover, some people also stated that they have had no access to water for a few days. However, the work is supposed to start today.
