Three suspects apprehended in Trinidad & Tobago for possession of cannabis

Three suspects were arrested in the South Division of Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, 11th November 2023.

The police officials of the South Division Task Force apprehended three suspects and seized illegal narcotics found with them during the crime eradication drive conducted by the officers.

The authorities conducted an exercise across the division between 8:00 pm to 12:00 midnight.

During the exercise, the officials arrested one man for the following charges:

–         Possession of 67 grams of marijuana.

Moreover, the second person was arrested for the charge of:

–         Possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking 11.7 grams

Whereas the third suspect was apprehended for the charge of:

–         Obstructing a Police officer

Superintendent Hospedales, ASP Phillip and Inspector. Ramlogan coordinated the crime eradication exercise.

The matter was supervised by Sgt Joseph and Sgt Mason, whereas W/Cpl Plenty and the other officers of the Southern Division Taskforce directly supervised the case.

The crime rate is rapidly increasing in Trinidad and Tobago, especially the possession of cannabis case, which is a very common these days. Just a few days back, Elliot Alexander, a 33-year-old, was fined $15,000 by a Sangre Grande Magistrate.

Alexander was a former Special Reserve Police Officer and was charged with Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Notably, Alexander pleaded guilty and was given the time period of 12 months to pay the fine, which was charged by Magistrate Cheron Raphael.

It was stated that if Alexander failed to pay the fine, then he would have to serve three years of hard labour in jail.

Notably, the accused was arrested on 15th November with 7.5 kg of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,000,000.

During the drug and crime suppression exercise conducted by the police officials and supervised by Sgt Hazel and Cpl Hanooman on 15th November at 9 pm, a silver Nissan B-14 was stopped by the MPS Police officers.

On checking the Nissan B-14, the authorities discovered 15 packets of cannabis.

Thus, the driver was arrested and the narcotics found from him were seized immediately.

Moreover, the investigations are ongoing by the Eastern Division Gang, Intelligence Unit and the Special Investigations Unit.
