Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A man from St Paul was arrested in possession of a Gun and ammunition on Saturday. It is to be noted that the man is currently cooperating with the police in their investigation.
Notably, the ranks of the Port-of-Spain Task Force conducted an operation in St Paul Street and environs on January 13 at around 9 pm.
Further to this, the officers had discovered a male priority offender who was found with a Glock 17 Pistol with an automatic selector and 11 rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition.
The police recovered all the illegal items from St Paul’s man and took him to the Carenage Police Station. He will be held under custody for some days as he is supposed to appear before a Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court by this week.
As per Royal Saint Lucia Police Services, the enquiries and investigation of this matter are ongoing. This news has been shared by the official Facebook handle of Saint Lucia’s police.
However, this is not a new case this year, as on January 13, the country witnessed a similar crime where police recovered a firearm, ammunition, marijuana and three stolen vehicles during the anti-crime exercises.
Notably, these operations were conducted across the various policing divisions over the past 48 hours from that day, which resulted in multiple arrests and illegal sales of narcotics and vehicles.
In the Central Division, ranks found two black plastic bags which contained 68 rounds of 9-mm ammunition. Then, the Port-of-Spain Task Force reached the vicinity of McShine Lane, where they observed a man who looked in the direction of the police vehicle and ran immediately.
After several attempts, the officers couldn’t catch the accused, and while searching the area, they discovered two kilograms of marijuana and one loaded pistol magazine containing six rounds of 9-mm ammunition.
Such stances of crime put the lives of people at risk, and they are risking the security and safeguarding of the country at large. The police are expected to enforce strict laws for such crimes, and they should conduct such exercises on every alternative day to deal with the crimes.
