St Lucia: The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has announced that St Lucia will host matches during its upcoming season (2022 season).
According to the latest update by the CPL, St Lucia will become one of four countries to host Hero CPL matches in 2022. The matches are scheduled to be played at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in Beausejour.
While announcing the new playing stage, Hero CPL’s CEO – Pete Russell, stated, “We are very pleased to confirm that we will be back in St Lucia in 2022. We are thankful to the government for cooperating with us. Undoubtedly, St Lucia has been such a huge part of the Hero CPL story, and as we enter our 10th season, it is great to be back at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground this year.”
CEO of the Saint Lucia Tourism Authority – Lorine Charles-St Jules, said, “Whole St Lucian community is delighted to become one of the venues for CPL 2022. The pandemic has limited major sporting events worldwide, so it is our pleasure to welcome back a prestigious tournament; this means a lot to us, and this event will be full of opportunities. It will be a chance to enjoy the brilliant sportsmanship you see on the cricket field, and it’s an opportunity to come together and enjoy our St Lucian hospitality.
We look forward to welcoming spectators and visitors this August-September.”
The last two seasons, played in 2020 and 2021, of the Hero CPL took place in Trinidad and Tobago and St Kitts and Nevis, respectively, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the authorities to conduct the tournament in one country.
On the contrary, for the 2022 season, the plan is to once again move around the region with three venues being used for the group stages and another selected for the finals.
The 2022 season would start on August 30 and conclude on September 30. This year, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots would defend the title they won in 2021.
