Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Minister of Tourism of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Marsha Henderson celebrates milestone achievement with the young leaders from the Youth Leadership Development Programme on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at the Royal St Kitts Hotel.

Henderson celebrated their successful completion of phase one of a Youth Leadership Development Programme that began in November 2022.

The 10-week programme saw young leaders, Josiah Benjamin, Andrew Davis, Desiree Elliot, Khari Gonsalves, Nathan Henry, Janaya Huggins, Andrenique Parris, Ahnica Rouse and Makalia Tucker, being encouraged to be effective future leaders through excellence in service and thought.

The initiative was jointly facilitated by Euphemia Brice-Roberts, Executive Director of Brice Roberts Business Consulting Services and Hensley Daniel, Chairman and Managing Director of HSO Trading Inc. The programme encompassed six modules that covered soft skills in emotional competence, relationship building and transformational leadership. The session further included elements of the 5Es of Leadership Practices in Ethics, Education, Entrepreneurship, Egalitarianism and Evaluation.

During her remarks, Minister Henderson explained that the leadership programme aligns with the ministry’s thrust towards regenerative development through education and awareness. She further indicated that the initiative bolsters the ministry’s Tourism Education and Awareness Programme, which endeavours to support the Sustainable Development Goals that reduce poverty; provide quality education and opportunities for gender equality.

Minister Henderson also took the opportunity to encourage the young leaders, reminding them that “being a leader comes with many responsibilities that may not always make you popular amongst your friends or even your family members. However, remember that you should be an inspiration to others, have a vision and the fortitude to convey said vision and lead others on that path”.

As Minister of Tourism and leader of the industry, she stressed that several opportunities were awaiting them in the hospitality and tourism sectors and encouraged them to gravitate to and seize with both hands opportunities such as these to gain transferrable knowledge.
