St Kitts and Nevis restores 80% electricity after blackout due to Storm Ernesto
The authorities of St Kitts Electricity Company have assured the citizens that they are making continuous efforts in order to restore power to all the areas as quickly as possible.

The St Kitts Electricity Company has restored around 80% of power to affected customers following the damage caused by the Tropical Storm Ernesto. Recently, the Tropical Storm Ernesto caused widespread power outages across the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis.
The authorities of St Kitts Electricity Company have assured the citizens that they are making continuous efforts in order to restore power to all the areas as quickly as possible. They stated that they have restored power to 80% of affected customers, but a few will still have to remain without electricity overnight.
The St Kitts Electricity Company also added that they are currently working to restore power in areas including Sandy Point Feeder, Cayon Feeder, Basseterre North Feeder, Basseterre South Feeder, Industrial Site Feeder, and Frigate Bay Feeder.
While shedding light on the problems being faced by the citizens without power outages, the General Manager of SKELEC, Clement Williams stated that they deeply regret the disruption and difficulties it has caused to the customers.
He added that their team has been working around the clock with a vision to bring everyone back online. For the same, the General Manager appreciated the unwavering patience and understanding level of the community shown by them during this challenging times.
The SKELEC stated that the safety of all the citizens of the community remains their top priority, And, for the same, they are committed to ensuring that all the affected areas receive power. They have promised not to stop their efforts and determination until every home and business is reconnected.
Moreover, the Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy of St Kitts and Nevis, Konris Maynard also appreciated the commitment of the SKELEC towards restoring power. He stated that Tropical Storm Ernesto has resulted in causing several major outages and down the lines across the island.
“Tropical Storm Ernesto contributed to many down electric poles and down wires across the Island and the SKELEC team is working in overdrive to repair,” noted Minister Maynard.
For the same, the SKELEC team is working in overdrive to repair those and provide all the people with the electricity services. While emphasising on the Power Plant, the Minister asserted that it is itself up and running with no issues as such.
However, power to some customers will only be restored when the field repairs are completed. Minister Maynard stated that he understands the frustration of having no electricity, but the citizens need to be patient as the field crews are making all efforts to restore power as soon as it is safely possible.
