St Kitts and Nevis restores 100% power after Tropical Storm Ernesto

Basseterre, St Kitts, and Nevis: All the feeders have been restored to 100% power following Tuesday’s passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. The St Kitts Electricity Company Ltd. extends gratitude to all the citizens for their cooperation during these challenging times.

While shedding light on restoring power, the St Kitts Electricity Ltd extended gratitude to its team for working hard and tirelessly over the last 72 hours to restore power. The authorities appreciated everyone for their constant determination towards prioritizing the needs of the citizens and providing them back with the electricity services.

The authorities restored power in several areas across the island including Cayon Feeder, Basseterre North Feeder, Basseterre South Feeder, Industrial Site Feeder, and Frigate Bay Feeder. SKELEC apologized the residents for any inconvenience caused by these recent storm related outages and also thanked them for their patience.

Moreover, the authorities also shed light on the emergency outage affecting customers on the Sandy Point Feeder. They noted that the authorities are making constant efforts in order to restore power and provide them with the services as quickly as possible.

The SKELEC also promised to take every precautionary measure possible to protect customer appliances from damage during outages and encouraged them to safeguard their equipment and appliances at all times. They also advised the customers to constantly check their Facebook page and website for updates about outages and restoration times.

The authorities ensured that the safety of all the residents remains their top priority and promised to continue to work for the well-being and development of the nation. For the same, the authorities stated that those people who still remain without power can contact the authorities at their emergency hotline 465-2013, 661-2013, or 600.

Notably, the Tropical Storm Ernesto contributed to many down electric poles and down wires across the Island. Following the restoration of power, the Minister of Energy of St Kitts and Nevis, Konris Maynard, lauded the exception team of SKELEC for their unwavering commitment and dedication towards restoring power.

Also, the Minister ensured that their department is making continuous efforts in order to mitigate the environmental impact of the restoration process. He also promised to install resilient power lines, invest in new technologies and implementing protocols to prepare for storm in future.

“The Public Works Department is actively continuing restoration efforts following the passage of Tropical Storm Ernesto. We urge everyone to remain vigilant during this period and to follow all signs and directions to ensure your safety,” noted Minister Konris Maynard.
