St Kitts and Nevis receives 11,700 doses of Pfizer vaccine from the US

Basseterre: St Kitts and Nevis, on 12th August 2021, announced receiving of Pfizer vaccine doses from the United States in a plane with a shipment of 11,700 doses of Pfizer vaccine. The government Officials received the shipment at Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.

Senior Government Officials went to the airport to receive the first tranch of the allocated vaccine from the US government to St Kitts and Nevis. PM Timothy Harris led this contingent and was accompanied by Minister of Health- Akilah Byron-Nisbett, Attorney General- Vincent Byron Jr, Minister of Tourism- Lindsay Grant, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health- Mrs Delores Stapleton-Harris, Chief Medical Officer- Dr Hazel Laws.

On Thursday, the first tranch arrived at St Kitts and Nevis out of 3 tranches that have 35,100 doses in total. This shipment is the result of the ongoing negotiations between the United States and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). This was 1-month long negotiations with the Biden-led administration.

These doses of Pfizer vaccine would prove a weapon to fight against the COVID-19 virus and mitigate the spread of coronavirus in the country. Prime Minister Harris marked the donation of the vaccines as a red-letter moment for the Federation’s successful management of COVID-19.

PM Harris said, “Today must be considered a good day for us in St Kitts and Nevis as we continue our fight against COVID-19 and we navigate our way to recovery. It is indeed a good day in our journey towards delivering the stronger, safer future that my administration has promised our beloved citizens and residents of St. Kitts and Nevis. Today we received the first tranche of 11,700 doses of the well-known Pfizer vaccine. For this, we express our collective gratitude to the President of the United States of America, His Excellency Joseph Biden and his administration.”

According to the statements by PM Harris, their team Unity would be trying to secure more vaccines for their country through diplomatic ways. They would try to build more substantial relationships with the US government.
