Ministry of Agriculture said that the agriculture sector would witness growth and strength in the upcoming months as the innovations were at the core of the Ministry’s development and reform agenda.

St Kitts and Nevis: Ministry of Agriculture said that the agriculture sector would witness growth and strength in the upcoming months as the innovations were at the core of the Ministry’s development and reform agenda.
The statement was given by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Ron Dublin Collins, on February 22, at the Annual Review Planning Meeting in St Kitts and Nevis. The theme of the meeting was “Innovation and Sustainability: A New Strategy for Agriculture in St Kitts and Nevis.”
Secretary Collins stated that in St Kitts and Nevis, the “agricultural sector is set and poised to take off.”
According to the Permanent Secretary, the government has been on the path of improvement of the sector and would introduce more innovative ideas for the enhancement of the sector.
Permanent Secretary also recalled the success of the sector in 2020 and mentioned that a hike was recorded in the growth and development in agricultural production. He also optimized that the sector would witness more growth and strength in 2022. He added that more items would be added to the basket of agricultural products.
The Permanent Secretary mentioned that the Ministry would promote market access and value-added products.
Minister added that the Ministry would grab the opportunities in 2022, providing a boost to the food and agricultural sector.
“The Ministry of Agriculture has worked tenaciously to reshape the sector after the global pandemic COVID-19,” said the minister of Agriculture.
He further highlighted the importance of the Annual Review Planning Meeting and stated that it holds an extremely important place in engaging the stakeholders. He further asked to examine the present toolkit to provide assistance in adopting new measures.
