St Kitts and Nevis celebrates International Women’s Day with vocational training initiatives

The Department of Gender Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis is all set to celebrate International Women’s Day by conducting several activities for the development of the women of the country.

St Kitts and Nevis: The Department of Gender Affairs of St Kitts and Nevis is all set to celebrate International Women’s Day by conducting several activities for the development of women in the country. 

It is to be noted that International Women’s Day is celebrated annually on 8th March. Every year it is celebrated to empower women to be able to access different career paths. Therefore, St Kitts and Nevis will host various activities in the month of March with the vision to train all the women in different fields such as plumbing, welding, auto mechanics, tilling etc.

Every year, International Women’s Day is celebrated with a theme, this year the theme is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.” The main objective of the theme is to increase the number of female participants in different fields with the motive of making them self-reliant and enhancing their knowledge, skills and abilities. 

The schedule for the activities includes

On Saturday, 2nd March 2024 – The Department of Gender Affairs will host training in plumbing at AVEC by collaborating with S.L Horsford. 

On Saturday, 9th March, 2024 – The women will be trained in auto mechanics at TDC Automotive in collaboration with TDC Car Care Clinic. 

On Saturday, 16th March 2024 – The women will be given training on Welding at the AVEC venue in collaboration with AVEC. 

On Saturday, 23rd March 2024 – The women will be trained in Electricity at AVEC in collaboration with S L Horsford. 

On Saturday, 30th March 2024 and 6th April 2024 – The Department will host training in tiling at the S L Horsford venue by collaborating with Maurice Hillier Epworth Junior School.

Interested women can register themselves, by emailing skngenaff@gov.kn or they can fill out the registration form by collecting from the Department of Gender Affairs, Victoria Road, Basseterre. They can also enroll by dialing at 467-1223. St Kitts and Nevis is hoping to train at least 30 participants in each vocational area. 

Virgil Jeffers, the Director of Gender Affairs while stating about the celebration of International Women’s Day in St Kitts and Nevis stated that “by providing the participants with this training opportunity, it is hoped that they can see this as a means to learn a new skill and eventually become an entrepreneur, thus earning an income and having an improved standard of living.”
