Saint Lucia: The Ministry of Education recently organized a School Supervision retreat at the Royalton Hotel, where the education officers from various school districts and units of Saint Lucia came together.
The major focus of the retreat was laid on the collective aspirations of those who are charged with the supervision of the education sector. Also, this fostered dialogue, collaboration and a shared vision in order to shape the future of education within Saint Lucia and a wider region.
Under this, continuous leadership development has come forward as the best approach to ensuring the achievement of a more dynamic and forward-thinking education system. Such a system would lead towards better administration of schools’ health under the theme “Empowering our education system, transforming our education system.”
The Chief Education Officer, Beverly Diodon, added that the theme reflects a dedication towards fostering leadership. This will continue an upward trend through Innovation and positive change within the education sector.
“Empowering our leaders is not just a slogan, it is the commitment to nurturing the potential within each of you. It is about recognizing the leadership that exists at every level of our education system and providing the support and the resources needed to catalyze positive change,” said the Chief officer, Beverly Diodon.
Moreover, the education minister, Shawn Edward outlined that the school supervision is considered as the backbone of the educational structure as it plays a great role in creating an education system that helps grow the human resource base of the country. Also, it supports in dealing with many social illnesses in the country such as crime.
“I firmly believe that real social transformation can come forth or come about if we program properly in our education system and the education we put forward must be one that is relevant of the realities of the time in which we now live,” said the minister, Shawn Edward.
Further, the Secretary Senator, Dr Pauline Antoine Prospere highlighted that the mission of school supervision goes beyond the routine tasks and called on officers to continue to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
“Remember our influence extends beyond the walls of the schools , beyond district offices. We serve the public, our collective efforts will help the principals, the teachers, the students and the leaders that we lead to shape this nation, to shape our society,” said Parliamentary Secretary, Dr Pauline Antoine Prospere.
