Saint Lucia: HelpAWS shares health update about Athena

Castries, Saint Lucia: HelpAWS, a dog shelter in Saint Lucia, has recently shared a health update on one of the pup in the shelter named Athena. While sharing the update, it also reminded me about how she entered the shelter with wounds and a broken leg.

HelpAWS, through its social media, has also shared the back story of the pup (Athena), mentioning how they found her with her life-threatening injuries. The update shared by the dog shelter organization stated, “She and her siblings were dumped outside our shelter with nothing but a note saying when they were born and how Athena had sustained her injuries.”

“She was crying in pain when we picked her up to assess her. She had a puncture wound in her neck and a leg so badly broken that the bone fell off only a few days after being in our care,” noted the dog shelter organization regarding the first few days of Athena in their care and supervision.

Furthermore, they added, “To this day, we don’t know how she got these injuries, but what we do know is that we worked tirelessly to help her get better.” In addition, the shelter also outlined that Athena is a fighter and took the pet lovers through her rehab journey. HelpAWS stated, “Long days, filled with ups and downs and even moments where we thought she wouldn’t pull through. But eventually, she did.

It was also outlined that the dog shelter organization was not able to save her leg, but they were able to save her soul, said one of a member. It was also stated, “Most would’ve given up and become feral after what they had endured, but Athena did not let that change her one bit. As she got better, her personality began flourishing, and it was a beautiful sight.”

Athena, during her rehab days, made so many new friends, and even though she was a tripod, that didn’t stop her from being able to keep up with the best of them. Little Athena was able to get to Canada and soon after find her forever home where she has been thriving. She is loved unconditionally and is the big sister to a little hooman.

The officials from the HelpAWS have stated that “Stories like hers are why we continue to do what we do. To help the helpless and give a voice to those who don’t have one.”

In the end, HelpAWS officials also extended thankfulness to the donors and people who helped them during the journey and noted, “We can’t thank our donors and supporters enough for the outpouring of love that Athena received during her time with us. We are so thankful for our extended family and couldn’t do much of what we do without your help,”

“If you would like to continue to help these babies and us, please consider donating via Etransfer, PayPal or Zelle to donate@helpaws.com or via Venmo to @helpaws,” said the dog shelter while urging people to come forward to help these little members of our society.
