Saint Lucia defeats Grenada in final segment of Windward Islands Women Championship

Saint Lucia won the Super 50 segment of the Windward Islands Women Championship as they defeated Grenada and topped the points table.

The Windward Islands Women’s Championship conducted the final segment of Super 50 on Wednesday, 14th February 2024. It is to be noted that two games were played on the said day, one was played between Grenada and Saint Lucia and the other between Dominica and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Both the games were begun at the same time but in two different venues.

Saint Lucia won the Super 50 segment of the tournament as they defeated Grenada and topped the points table. The team secured its safest spot in the league as they won all three games in which they have played.  After winning the toss, Saint Lucians decided to bat first and they ended up scoring the lowest total of the tournament i.e. 129 for 10 in 32.3 overs.

Malika Edward was the only batter who scored runs in double figures, 50 in 66 balls. Moreover, the players of Grenada started the second inning with a feeling of confidence. However, their confidence could not remain for a longer time as their wickets started falling and they ended up with a final score of 108.

The leading wicket takers from Saint Lucia were Fletcher and Pascal who managed to take 6 and 3 wickets by giving away 25 and 22 runs respectively. Meanwhile, the highest run scorer from Grenada was R. Francis who scored 28 runs in 60 balls. The bowlers of Saint Lucia displayed excellent performance and led their team to a victory.

Whereas, the second game of the day was won by St Vincent and the Grenadines as they defeated Dominica by 10 wickets and grabbed their first win of the tournament. The highest run scorers from St Vincent and the Grenadines were K Homer who scored 41 runs unbeaten in 34 balls and D Creese contributed 20 runs.

Meanwhile, the leading run scorer from Dominica was Pearl Etienne who contributed 23 runs in 22 balls. The win of St Vincent and the Grenadines signifies that they will face Grenada in the first T20 semi-finals and Dominica will compete against St Lucia in the second T20.  Both games will be played on the same day, Friday, 16th February 2024 at La Sagesse.
