Saint Lucia: Anse La Raye Bridge & MHWCRP reconstruction commences

The ongoing work of the Millenium Highway and West Coast Road Reconstruction Project (MHWCRP) and Anse La Raye Bridge aimed at enhancing the infrastructure and connectivity between the capital and the southwestern part of the island.

Castries, Saint Lucia: The ongoing work of the Millenium Highway and West Coast Road Reconstruction Project (MHWCRP) and Anse La Raye Bridge aimed at enhancing the infrastructure and connectivity between the capital and the southwestern part of the island.

It is to be noted that the update has been shared with the people by the Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport of Saint Lucia.

  1. Anse La Raye Bridge Reconstruction 

The crucial task of reconstruction work of the Anse La Raye Bridge has been given to O.B. Sadoo Engineering Services. Notably, the demolition works of the site have started in the bridge’s vicinity with the steel fabrications during the week of January 8 to 12, 2024.

The demolition work included the removal of existing structures and the clearing of trees within the vicinity of the existing bridge site.

During that time, the traffic was managed with the assistance of Saint Lucian Police, who facilitated redirection and ensured safe access where necessary. For the time being, a temporary bypass bridge has been installed on-site.

  1. West Coast Road

The West Coast Road reconstruction project has been contracted to Trinidad-based firm Inc. Furthermore, currently, the focus is on retaining wall construction and road maintenance stretching from the Anse La Raye Bridge to the Canaries.

  1. The Millenium Highway to Cul De Sac Roundabout

C.O. Williams Construction Ltd is progressing the Millennium Highway component of the project. Emphasis is currently being placed on the construction of the Cul de Sac roundabout, pavement and structural works. Paving work is scheduled to commence once these key elements are completed.

Furthermore, some sections of the Millenium Highway may also experience single-lane closures while work continues.

Moreover, the Department of Infrastructure, Ports and Transport laid importance on the safety and security of both motorists and pedestrians in the vicinity of the projected sites. People across the nation have been cautioned extremely, and the department urged them to follow the associated signs, signals, and cautionary devices in place.

Noting this, the MHWCRP is a vitally important investment in the infrastructure of Saint Lucia, and the department further expressed its gratitude for the public’s cooperation and understanding during these pivotal developments.
