PM Roosevelt Skerrit announces groundbreaking ceremony for new International Airport
PM Roosevelt Skerrit met representatives from Montreal Management Consultants, the contractors of China Railway No. 5 as well as the members of the Ministerial Sub-committee.

The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit announced the groundbreaking ceremony of the highly awaited new international airport on 9th November, 2024. Before the ceremony he visited the project site and expressed delight on seeing the progress registered in a dream project of every citizen of the island nation.
The announcement was made by the Prime Minister during the signing ceremony of the Colihaut River Defence Wall. He called it “the significant national event” and extended invitation to all the citizens for joining the authorities for the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Dominica’s International Airport.
And, sharing the glimpses of his visit to the project site, the Prime Minister stated “Last week, I visited the International Airport Project site ahead of the official groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Saturday, November 9.”
During his visit, PM Roosevelt Skerrit met with the representatives from Montreal Management Consultants, the contractors of China Railway No. 5 as well as the members of the Ministerial Sub-committee. He exchanged significant dialogues on the progress and the enhancements being made at the airport.
PM Skerrit stated that this new international airport is highly significant for all the citizens of the country and is likely to strengthen the tourism sector as well as generate extensive employment for all Dominicans. He therefore asked all the citizens to take pride in this transformative project which has the potential to unlock numerous opportunities for economic growth.
The leader of the nation continued to say that the construction of the new international airport would play a huge role in making the Nature Isle more accessible to the international market, boosting the tourism industry.
“The completion of the international airport will not only have direct flights from Europe and North America, but also from China and elsewhere possibly in this area,” mentioned PM Skerrit.
He added that it would later result in increasing the arrival of several number of visitors, earning higher revenues from other sectors including, accommodations, dining, transportation and many more.
The Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit added that the construction of the airport would also open doors to several job opportunities, stimulating economic growth and addressing the gap of unemployment in the country.
Moreover, the citizens of the nation have also expressed their excitement about the official groundbreaking ceremony of the airport and lauded the Prime Minister and his government for their efforts towards elevating the country to greater heights.
