One man died, another injured due to shooting in La Horquetta

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A shooting incident in La Horquetta left one man dead and his brother injured on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Notably, the deceased was identified as 26-year-old Brent Seunarine Singh of Phase 7, while the injured victim remains unnamed.

On Sunday, around 11:35 pm, Singh and his 33-year-old brother were sitting in the gallery of their home when a silver Nissan Tiida pulled up.

Reportedly, the two men then came out of the vehicle and approached the siblings. It is to be noted that as soon as the suspects tried to approach the victims, an argument ensued, and as a consequence, the culprits dug out their firearms.

They fired multiple shots at the siblings before fleeing the scene.

In all the hustle and bustle, residents heard the gunshots, and they immediately reached the crime scene. They then discovered the duo lying on the roadway, bleeding from multiple gunshot injuries.

Notably, the emergency health services and police were informed, and the siblings were taken to the Arima Hospital by one of the neighbours, where doctors declared Seunarine Singh dead while undergoing emergency surgery.

It is to be added in the remarks of the doctor that another 33-year-old man sustained gunshot injuries to his face and upper torso; however, he was stabilized before being transferred to Mt Hope Hospital for additional treatment.

Additionally, the crime scene investigators also visited the scene and recovered 40 spent shells, including rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition and 9 mm ammunition, as well as seven deformed projectiles and two fragments.

The scene of the shooting was visited by a team of officers from the Northern Division and the Homicide Bureau Region II, which included Inspector Jagroo, Cpl Bharath, Cpl Gonzales, PC Emanuel, Sgt Caldon and PC Mahabir, among several others.

Such stances of crimes put the lives of people at risk and harmed the integrity of the nation as, on the same day, it was reported that a man succumbed to his injuries after being shot in Morvant.

The victim was identified as 35-year-old Kwane Alexander of Lp 154 Chinapoo Village. He was at Wallace Road when he was ambushed and shot in the chest.

He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where he was given first aid.
