Castries: The United States National Hurricane Centre (NHC) delegates will visit Saint Lucia on April 19 to exchange dialogues regarding hurricane preparedness as the hurricane season will start on June 1 and will run till November 30.
The productive visit of MHC representatives featured several discussions on hurricane resilience in the country.
They will also share some measures, which will be taken by the people to become weather-ready before the season officially starts. As per the information, the NHC officials will visit three more countries in the Caribbean regarding the matter of the hurricane.
During their visit, they will conduct tours of the Air Force Reserve Command’s ‘Hurricane Hunter’ aircraft. These tours are an essential part of their visits as they will support them in collecting data about hurricanes and ensure the validity of the forecasts.
The Director of Saint Lucia’s Meteorological Services, Andre Joyeux gave a description about the Aircraft tours and the processes which will be followed during gathering the data.
According to him, the military aircrews fly state-of-the-art aircraft directly into the storms’ core and fish out the data essential for their research. This data will be given to experts, who will utilise it to forecast the intensity and landfall of the storm.
