Following three dominating and consecutive wins, West Indies became the 4th team to qualify for the Super 8 round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. With the motto to continue to dominate the game, West Indies aims to continue to deliver a power-pack performance in the games to come ahead to claim the World Cup 2024.

West Indies has remained unstoppable with their powerful batting and bowling as they have recently registered a thrilling win against Kiwis at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago. The unbeaten knock of 68 runs by Sherfane Rutherford and the impressive bowling line-up played an immense role in the home team’s qualification for the Super 8 stage of the tournament.

The crucial partnerships of Rutherford with lower orders such as Akeal Hosein, Andre Russell, and Romario Shepherd helped the team score a defendable total and gave New Zealand a target of 150 runs. Following that, the West Indies bowlers displayed top-class bowling, with Alzarri Joseph taking 4 wickets by giving away 19 runs and Gudakesh Motie taking 3 wickets at a score of 25 runs.

Akeal Hosein and Andre Russell also took 1 wicket each and restricted New Zealand to 136 runs with the loss of 9 wickets. After their triumph over Papua New Guinea and Uganda, West Indies were seeming to come across as unprepared for the game against New Zealand but Rutherford turned out to be the saviour for the team and lead his team towards victory.

The West Indies team is now preparing for their last group stage match against the table toppers of Group C, Afghanistan which has been scheduled to take place on 17thJune 2024 at Darren Sammy Cricket Ground. The two-time ICC T20 Champions in 2012 and 2016 are aiming to claim the title for the third time and want to make it even more special by winning it in their home country.
