US Embassy collaborates with T&T to tackle crime in country
The United States (US) Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago will address the root causes of increasing crime in T&T and help the country combat crime, human and narco-trafficking.

The United States (US) Embassy in Trinidad and Tobago will address the root causes of increasing crime in T&T and help the country combat crime, human and narco-trafficking.
Such efforts are being made to curb the crimes happening every day in the country. According to information shared by the US Embassy, they are collaborating with various sections of society to find out the root causes of the crimes.
US Ambassador- Candace Bond and Mayaro MP Rushton Pare spoke regarding the increase in illegal activities in the island nation. In particular, Bond expressed his commitment to tackling crime and supporting the rule of law in the region. Other law enforcement officials also participated in the meeting.
“Combatting crime and supporting the rule of law is a top foreign policy priority of the US government in Trinidad and Tobago. Security co-operation contributes to regional stability, the investment climate necessary to attract and grow the economy, and represents our shared values as democratic societies”, the official stated.
It is noteworthy that the Embassy is currently focusing on enhancing regional stability, promoting investment-friendly environment and maintaining shared democratic values. The main focus of both the allies is to emphasize the important role of security operations.
“The US Embassy is working closely with our Trinbagonian counterparts to strengthen Trinidad and Tobago security and law enforcement institutions through training, professional exchanges, personnel, equipment, and close collaboration to reduce illegal trafficking, crime, and criminality”, added Bond.
With this in mind, officers are engaging with young people, civil society, religious organisations, community groups and schools to understand the mindset behind the criminal mind and how they will support at-risk youth.
The Government of Trinidad and Tobago, in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy, aims to contribute to long-term crime prevention and community resilience to enrich the lives of its citizens.
Recently, Prime Minister Keith Rowley went on his first international tour to the US, and he attended a meeting with top US officials at the Pentagon in the United States. The main agenda of the meeting was to resolve the issues of illicit trafficking and maritime, cybersecurity, frameworks to facilitate expanded bilateral security co-operation and modernisation of defense force and training.
During the meeting, PM Rowley made it clear thar his main focus is to secure the country, and its security challenges should be treated on a priority level as they are extremely important.
Noting this, the Meeting was hosted by the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Western Hemisphere Affairs- Daniel Erikson.
Additionally, people across the nation took to their social media handles (Facebook) to laud the great work of PM Rowley. One of the comments, by person named Rajindra Sumessar read as, “Once again Dr Rowley continues to demonstrate brilliance in leadership. Proving the positive impacts of his international work, for the betterment of our country. Well done.”
