TT: WASA to provide free truck-borne water service

Trinidad and Tobago: On Tuesday, the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) announced that the truck-borne water service provided by the authority would be free, and the sale of water through the service is strictly prohibited.

A public notice was issued by the WASA after receiving several complaints by the public, claiming that they were forced to pay exorbitant sums for truck borne water.

The issued notice by the authority read, “The Authority’s water tankers and those contracted for use by WASA all bear a sign that clearly states that the truck borne water is FREE to customers.”

The authority further notified that eligible customers’ accounts must be paid up to enjoy WASA’s truck borne water service.

To encourage the customers, WASA has issued toll-free numbers 800-4H2O (800-4420/4426); the numbers might be used to report the persons offering water for sale through its truck borne service or otherwise.

Apart from calling service, WASA has also provided an application service: the WASA Services App and Customer Portal service at www.wasa.gov.tt. The individual can also send a message via Whatsapp number 709-7793.

On the other hand, WASA announced water interruption in their pipe borne supply on Wednesday 16, February 2022, from 8 am to 8 pm.

The authority informed about the disruption through a press release. The release notified that “This has become necessary in order to facilitate repairs to defective valves at the facility.”

According to the WASA, the affected areas would be – La Puerta Avenue, Crystal Stream, Mary Avenue, Eligon Avenue, Rich Plain Road and environs, Manning Street, La Estancia, Anne Avenue, Gopaul Avenue, Alyce Glen, Simeon Road, Goodwood Park, West Moorings, and parts of Bayshore.

The authorities advised that some affected areas might witness normal services in the 24 hours.
