Trump says Haitian immigrants entering US have AIDS, calls it ‘death wish’

The former President of the United States – Donald Trump, has claimed that Haiti has an enormous AIDS problem, and the Haitian immigrants who are entering the US, hundreds of thousands of them probably have AIDS.

Haiti: The former President of the United States – Donald Trump, has claimed that Haiti has an enormous AIDS problem, and the Haitian immigrants who are entering the US, hundreds of thousands of them probably have AIDS.

The former President gave the remarks while speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity on Thursday evening.

He stated that allowing Haitians into the US is like a death wish for the nation while referring to the thousands of Haitian refugees and migrants who are seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border in Del Rio, Texas.

Following the statement, he asserted, “Haiti has a tremendous AIDS problem. AIDS is a step beyond, AIDS is a horrible problem,” he told Hannity. “So hundreds of thousands of people are coming into our country. And if you look at the stats, and if you look at the numbers, take a look at what’s happening in Haiti. A tremendous problem with AIDS.”

While as per the data issued by the United Nations, the predominance of HIV among Haitian adults from the age group between 15 to 49 is around 1.9 per cent. This data goes contrary to the claims of the former United States President.

The report also reveals that the prevalence rate of HIV in the Caribbean island has decreased in the past decades.

This was not for the first time, that such remarks/ statements were made by Trump. He also made similar claims in the year 2017, where he stated that 15,000 Haitian immigrants who were given US visas all have AIDS. Although, the White House then denied these claims. While, the former President pronounced Haiti as a ‘shithole nation’ in the year 2018.

The Caribbean island is currently battling with various problems such as – political instability, gang violence, and COVID-19. On 14 August, 7.2 magnitudes of earthquake hard hit the country, making the country’s situation more worse.

The earthquake killed more than 2,200 individuals, destroying over 53,000 buildings on the island.
