Hanuman Jayanti is a festival of Hindus, which is also known as Hanuman Janmotsav. The eve is celebrated with full enthusiasm in the Republic of India and even in the countries where Indians reside.

The word Janmotsav (Janam-Utsav) stands for “birthday”.

Significance of Hanuman Jayanti:

Lord Hanuman is adored as a god with the power to achieve victory against evil and provide protection. On this auspicious day, the devotees of Lord Hanuman praise him and seek his protection and blessings while chanting his songs.

People pay a visit to worship him and present their religious offerings, in return for which they receive prasad from the priest of the temple in the form of sweets, flowers, tilak, sacred ash (UDI) and Ganga Jal (holy water), and coconuts.

Moreover, people also chant “Hanuman Chalisa”, which is believed to eradicate all the negative energy and evil around a person. The reading of holy scriptures such as – Ramayana and Mahabharata are also being witnessed all across the country.

The day marks remarkable importance for the Hindu community living in every corner of the world and is commemorated annually.

Lord Hanuman is also considered a symbol of strength and energy. He is said to be capable of assuming any form of his choice, wielding the Gada (including many celestial weapons), moving mountains, darting through the air, seizing the clouds, and equally rivalling Garuda in the swiftness of flight.

Meanwhile, the holy festival is celebrated on different days in several parts of India.
