Trinidad and Tobago: Police seize 5 Firearms, $6.3 Million worth of Marijuana

Trinidad and Tobago: Police Service has arrested several persons and seized five firearms and quantities of ammunition and Marijuana during several anti-crime exercises conducted across the country over the weekend.

In the Southern Division, officers of the Barrackpore Police Station received information about a suspect in the act of cutting telephone cables in the vicinity of the Barrackpore Recreation Ground around 1 am on Saturday, April 23, 2022.

Upon arriving at the scene, the officers searched a silver Nissan Tiida motor vehicle and allegedly found 50 feet of copper cables, along with several cutting implements in the trunk.

Four men, ages 18 to 36, were arrested in connection with the find. A search of one of the suspects resulted in officers allegedly finding one Smith and Wesson revolver and three rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Also, in the Southern Division on Saturday, the Princes Town Police Station officers conducted an exercise between 10 am and midday. They stopped and searched a white B14 motor vehicle with three male occupants.

The search resulted in officers finding 545 grammes of Marijuana in the vehicle. The suspects, 23 to 27, all of Moruga, were arrested in connection with the find.

Also, around 10:20 pm on Saturday, officers of the Southern Division Criminal Investigations Department, Operations and Intelligence Unit were on patrol in the San Fernando district. They observed a male suspect walking along the roadway.

Upon seeing the officers, the suspect started walking in the opposite direction and allegedly threw an object resembling a firearm onto the ground. The officers held the man and retrieved the thing, which was found to be a Beretta pistol fitted with a magazine containing three rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, a 17-year-old of Diamond Village, was arrested in connection with the find.
In Area West of the North Central Division, officers conducted an anti-crime exercise between 4 am, and 8 am, on April 23, 2022, during which they executed search warrants for firearms and ammunition in the Tunapuna district.

The searches resulted in officers finding one Ruger pistol fitted with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition in a bushy area along Pasea Street, Extension, Tunapuna.

The exercise was coordinated by ACP Samaroo, Snr Supt Ramphal, Supt Powder, and ASP Coggins and spearheaded by Insp. Highly with the assistance of members of the St Joseph Criminal Investigations Department, St Joseph and Tunapuna Warrant Staff and the TTPS Canine Unit.

In the Eastern Division, officers of the Stolen Vehicles Squad conducted an anti-crime exercise around 2 pm on April 23. They came upon a marijuana plantation in a bushy area off La Seiva Road, Sangre Grande.

With the assistance of the Eastern Division Task Force, the officers destroyed 5,000 fully grown marijuana trees, 200 marijuana seedlings, and 10 pounds of cured Marijuana.

The drugs have an estimated street value of TT$6.3 million.

Meanwhile, in an anti-crime exercise conducted in the Northern Division by officers of the Northern Division Task Force- Area North, the Pinto Police Post and the Canine Unit, between 10 am and 5 pm, on April 24, 2022, officers found one Taurus pistol loaded with a magazine containing five rounds of ammunition.

The exercise was spearheaded by ACP Samaroo, Snr Supt Pamponette and coordinated by Supt Edwards, ASP Etienne and Insp Pitt.

And an exercise conducted in the Toco district between 11:30 am and 4 pm yesterday, April 24, by officers of the Eastern Division, resulted in a 52-year-old Toco man being arrested for possession of a Taurus revolver and seven rounds ammunition.

Investigations into all incidents are ongoing.
