Trinidad and Tobago: Leader of Opposition Kamla Persad Bissessar extended wishes to Queen Elizabeth II on her 96th Birthday, on April 21, 2022.
While extending warm wishes, the opposition leader stated, “As the Leader of the Opposition of Trinidad and Tobago as well as the first Female Leader to serve as Commonwealth Chair in Office in 2011, I extend warm wishes to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II on the recent celebration of her 96th birthday.”
She further mentioned, “I join voices around our Commonwealth and indeed throughout our Global Community to thank and acknowledge the gracious work, impactful contributions, and inspiring moments Her Majesty has shared with us all over the decades.”
Opposition leader took a note to praise the Queen and wrote, “Since Her Majesty’s accession in 1952, which saw her become the longest-serving British Monarch, she has dedicated much of her time to many meaningful, charitable and enlightening projects to develop not only the Commonwealth but other regions of the Global Community”.
She added, “As Her Majesty also celebrates another major milestone, marking Her Platinum Jubilee this year, I am grateful to not only have met Her Majesty while I served as Commonwealth Chair in Office, such as during our Heads of Government Meeting in Australia 2011 but to have worked on meaningful projects.”
“In 2011, it was an honour to work with other Commonwealth Nations, inspired by Her Majesty, to remove the rules which gave male heirs precedence to the Throne over their sisters in succession. Her Majesty’s tenure has shown that such a rule was obsolete and irrelevant because neither gender nor age deterred her after becoming Queen as a young girl aged 25,” the Opposition leader stated.
Furthermore, Bissessar mentioned, “Few global figures have stood alongside Leaders from different nations and backgrounds as Her Majesty. Even fewer global figures are known and well respected across generations, as is Her Majesty. Over the last 70 years, she has shared many beautiful moments with the world for which we are grateful.”
She added that last year Her Majesty would have faced the sorrow of losing her beloved husband, His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. However, despite this loss, her strength to carry on valiantly has moved us all.
The opposition leader extended wishes on behalf of Trinidad and Tobago’s Opposition and the United National Congress and prayed for God’s richest blessings. She further offered sincere best wishes for Queen Elizabeth II, as well as offered sincere congratulations to her friends within the United Kingdom on this special occasion.
