Trinidad and Tobago: NRCHA announces update on “My Brother’s Keeper” Wellness Initiative

Trinidad and Tobago: North Central Regional Health Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has shared an update on the protective services workers screened through the “My Brother’s Keeper” Wellness Initiative. According to the update by NRCHA, more than 2000 protective services workers were screened through the initiative.

Since its launch in 2018, approximately 2000 workers from the protective services were screened through the NCRHA’s ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ initiative. Temporarily paused during the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the programme officially resumed on Saturday, 26th March 2022. Back in full swing, the NCRHA’s ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ Team hosted 17 sessions in 2022, which 635 workers attended.

‘My Brother’s Keeper’ seeks to maintain the health and well-being of members of the protective services while they continue to safeguard our nation. Our brave men and women receive screenings from our caring and well-qualified physicians, dieticians, ophthalmologists and other specialists. They are also afforded the opportunity to update their vaccination status and undergo Stress Tests, Blood Work, ECGs and Chest X-rays.

“The ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ initiative was initially created to ensure that individuals in the prison services are mentally and physically healthy – essentially, we acknowledge and support them as they perform their duties on behalf of this nation,” stated NCRHA CEO Davlin Thomas.

“At the NCRHA, we understand that the daily commitments and responsibilities of that particular workforce may prevent persons from accessing preventative medical services. We made these services accessible to the courageous men and women who pledged their lives to the safety of our communities outside of their rostered working hours. It is also a part of our thrust to raise awareness of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and improve the overall quality of healthcare in Trinidad and Tobago,” Thomas further added.

“The North Central Regional Health Authority is committed to being a force for good health by improving the lives of our people, our communities and our country; and this commitment is evident in our various outreach projects such as Walk the Talk; the Men’s Wellness Initiative; the Great Pap Smear Initiative; Ready for the Road; and My Brother’s Keeper, to name a few,” Thomas mentioned. He also paid special commendations to members of the protective services for their willingness to partake in the ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ initiative.
