Trinidad and Tobago: The vape Trend is at its peak these days as many adults use vapes or e-cigarettes as a way to quit Smoking. The Ministry of Health, Trinidad and Tobago, highlighted the facts found by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).

The CDC has found that most adults do not stop smoking cigarettes and instead start using both products. This as well is known as “dual use” which takes them further away from quitting.

E-cigarettes, commonly known as Vapes, are systems that heat a liquid to create aerosols that are inhaled by the user. Considerably, Vape emissions typically contain nicotine and other toxic substances that are harmful to both users and persons who are nearby.

Some Vape products claiming to be nicotine-free as well have been found to contain nicotine. These commonly contain additives, flavours and chemicals that can be toxic. Considering its numerous adverse effects on the human body, the Ministry of Health has added that Cessation Clinics are available for those who wish to quit.

“Support is available at Cessation Clinics for persons who want to quit,” mentioned the Health Ministry.

Moreover, many of the services are available at the Cessation Clinics, which are as follows:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Behavioural Therapy
  • Pharmacotherapy
  • Medical Management
  • Assessment of the Patient’s Level of Tobacco or Nicotine
  • Dependency and readiness to quit
  • Referrals to Specialized Services

The Cessation clinics are designed to help users quit smoking and provide techniques that will aid persons in staying tobacco-free.

Importantly, the Ministry of Health is offering free services of Cessation Clinics to the public. These clinics will function in providing both the medical consultation with pharmacotherapy advice and behavioral therapy for smoking cessation.

The Clinics as well will support raising awareness of the health risks associated with cigarette smoking and the benefits of quitting smoking through individual counselling and group therapy.
