Tobago: The Thanksgiving Service as a part of Tobago Heritage Festival which was scheduled to take place on the island nation on 1st July has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions of Hurricane Beryl.

Notably, the service was scheduled for 1 pm at the Scarborough RC Church. The thanksgiving service was scheduled to be conducted in order to celebrate African ancestors and extend gratitude to them for their guidance and favour granted to the Tobago region during the past year

The information about the postponement of the thanksgiving service was unveiled by the Tobago Festivals Commission Limited. “The Tobago Festivals Commission Limited wishes to advise the public that the Thanksgiving Service for the Tobago Heritage Festival 2024 is now postponed,” noted Tobago Festivals Commission Limited.

Along with that, they also shared that the offices of the Commission, located at GNV Place, Wilson Road and Smithfield Plaza will also be closed on Monday. Moreover, as per the latest reports shared by Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Services, the island nation is currently under a tropical storm warning which means that there is a high potential for tropical storm conditions. As of 5 am, Hurricane Beryl was located near 11.7°N 59.9°W, around 93 km northeast of Tobago, moving westward near 31 km/h.

According to the reports, there is currently a high chance (80%) of hazardous seas with large, battering waves. Also, the mariners can also expect wave heights leading to cause a danger to small craft, coastal and offshore activities. Therefore, the national hurricane centre has urged the citizens to be prepared for the likelihood of tropical storm conditions.

They have been asked to have systems in place to protect the lives, livelihood and property of the citizens. As, Tobago may likely to witness the cloudy to overcast conditions with widespread showers. The frequent thunderstorm activity and gusty winds may also appear in excess of 65km/h associated with Hurricane Beryl.
