The Bahamas receives additional ventilators

The Bahamas’ Ministry of Health received four ventilators which will help the COVID-19 response of the country.

Two prominent families of Canada, the Munks and the Rogers, donated the ventilators to the Ministry during an official ceremony at the Ministry of Health on November 27.

Two ventilators were given to a private health facility in Grand Bahama, and two ventilators were given to the Ministry.

Dr Conville Brown, founder and physician-in-chief as well as a chief cardiologist at Bahamas Heart Centre and the Medical Pavilion Bahamas, facilitated the procurement of the medical machines.

He thanked the Canadian families for the donation.

He said that on behalf of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the Ministry of Health extends gratitude for the donations of ventilators by the Munks and Rogers families to the Bahamas.

He also said that the generosity of the families is aiding the overall healthcare advancement in the Bahamas.

He highlighted that the donation is very beneficial during the time of the pandemic.

The Minister said that increasing the capacity of assisting in saving more lives is invaluable.

A statement by the Ministry of Health statement said that the ventilators are “dual electronically and battery-powered” and cost more than $100,000.

The statement read there are just less than 90 ventilators available in the public healthcare system, with 15 at the Rand Memorial Hospital in Grand Bahama and the rest of the ventilators in New Providence.
