Ten Persons Arrested during Exercises in Central Division: TTPS

Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Ten persons were arrested, and several rounds of ammunition were recovered during Anti-Crime Exercises in the Central Division, according to the reports by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

In one instance, Three men were arrested, and a quantity of ammunition was seized during an anti-crime exercise in Freeport earlier this week.

The arrest came as members of the Freeport Criminal Investigations Department(CID)targeted priority offenders and drug blocks in the Carlsen Field and Waterloo areas.

During the exercise, officers executed a search warrant for arms and ammunition at a home located at Upper Carapichiama. During the search, the officers found four rounds of nine-millimetre ammunition and one Samsung cell phone.

The cell phone was reported stolen in a report of Robbery with violence which occurred on May 5th, 2023, in Freeport. One man was arrested and conveyed to the Freeport Police Station.

Officers also arrested a 42-year-old man from Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, for an outstanding warrant, as well as a 19-year-old man on Southern Main Road, Couva.

According to the primary information by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, around 12:45 am, four friends were liming at a house when a man of East Indian Descent exited from a bedroom on the eastern side of his home, armed with a cutlass and announced a robbery.

A physical altercation ensued, resulting in two men being wounded and extensive damage done to the furniture and appliances of the said house. The victims were, however, able to subdue the suspect and contacted the Chaguanas Police Station.

According to the police officials, a 37-year-old man from Roopsingh Road Carapichaima was arrested and conveyed to the Chaguanas Health Facility, where he was examined and later discharged. He conveyed to the Chaguanas Police Station pending further enquiries.

Officers acting on intelligence proceeded to Ojar Maraj Avenue, Brickfield, Waterloo and executed a Search Warrant for Firearms and ammunition. However, nothing illegal was found.

Four female undocumented Venezuelan Nationals were also found and rescued by the party of officers. Two Male Venezuelan were also present and found to be Prohibited immigrants and detained.

All six were conveyed to the San Fernando Immigration Centre and were handed over to the Immigration Enforcement Unit for further enquiries and to be screened for Human Trafficking.

Investigations are ongoing, the police of Trinidad and Tobago stated.
