Antigua and Barbuda is all set to embark a new chapter in the aviation history with the opening of a new international, Burton-Nibbs Airport, today Thursday, 3rd October, 2024. An SVG Islander is scheduled to be the first flight touching down at the airport, marking the significant commencement of this historic occasion.

As per the details, the keys to the new international airport in Barbuda have been officially handed over to the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority. The keys were presented by Managing Director of PLH, the developer, Justin Wilshaw to the Operations Manager of the Authority Rex Daly.

As the authorities bid farewell to the Codrington Airport, the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority is thrilled about the opening of the Burton-Nibbs International Airport.

According to the information shared by the authorities, an SVG Islands will be the first aircraft to arrive at the airport around 7:35 am, welcoming the flight with a water salute.

The authorities asserted that the opening of the new international airport will play a huge role in bringing countless opportunities ahead, including enhanced connectivity between the islands and increased accessibility for international travellers.

The authorities of the airport asserted that the official opening of the facility will usher in a new era of flight traffic between Antigua and its sister island, accommodating a large number of travellers and providing them with seamless and efficient travel options.

Moreover, the authorities also recognized the entire team on the ground, working tirelessly in order to ensure a seamless transition from Codrington Airport to the brand-new jewel in regional aviation.

Burton-Nibbs International Airport

This newly built international airport has been named after two Barbudans, late Sir Eric Burton and Arthur Nibbs. These two people have played a huge role and worked tireless in order to lead the twin-island nation towards growth and development and, shaping the political landscape of the country.

The building of the new International Airport is anticipated to play a huge role in attracting more international airlines and passengers, increasing transit traffic, and boosting tourism and business travel to Antigua and Barbuda.

With the official opening ceremony of Burton-Nibbs Airport, Antigua and Barbuda will join a short list of countries in the Caribbean with two international airports.
