St Vincent and the Grenadines hosted the 45th meeting of the national coordinators of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States on the 30th of November, 2023. St Vincent and the Grenadines holds the position of president pro tempore of the regional integration organisation, giving the nation an important role.
The meeting was held at the Global Campus of the University of the West Indies in the capital city. The primary objective of the meeting was to push forward the process of drafting a declaration of the bloc.
This declaration will play a pivotal role in the Summit of Heads of State and Government which is scheduled to be held in 2024.
The organisation plays an important role in bringing various countries in the Latin American and the Caribbean region under one banner, allowing for seamless conversations on a variety of issues.
Considering the close proximity of Caribbean nations and Latin American countries, it is important for all parties to have the ability to focus on finding common ground on shared issues.
The relationship is not merely based on economic congruence but also on matters of significance in the realms of social, political and security related issues.
The delegates that represented their respective nations and interests had the opportunity to gain new perspectives, coming from their counter parts from other nations and regions, helping them broaden their horizons.
In the process, it is far more likely that these nations can formulate and adopt measures which consider various regional aspects and adopt a holistic approach to shared issues.
