St Vincent and the Grenadines: Two people fined $500.00 EC for several offences

St Vincent and the Grenadines: Two people were fined $500.00 EC and pleaded guilty to two counts of offences. The incident is reported to have taken place on 11^th April 2024 at the Kingstown Wharf.

The suspects have been identified as 53-year-old Rudolph Marshall, Cart Operator of Lowmans Leeward and 52-year-old Saville Keir, a farmer of Biabou. As per the reports, both the suspects were caught with 554 grams of cannabis.

Subsequently, they were arrested by the officers and eventually laid with the charges of the offence of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply it to another and for Drug Trafficking.

Following the charges, both the suspects Marshal and Keir were presented before the magistrate at the Serious Offences Court. The magistrate held both the suspects guilty for two separate offences.

Marshal pleaded guilty and fined $500.00 EC for the offence of possession of controlled drug. The offence of trafficking drugs was discharged from him.

Meanwhile, Keir was also fined $500.00 EC but he pleaded guilty to the offence of trafficking drugs and was reprimanded for the offence of Possession of controlled drug.

Several residents of the community took to their social media accounts and expressed their different views and opinions on the increasing crime rate occurring in the nation.

One person commented “Officers need to focus on other crime cases as well, okay we got it that consumption of drugs is harmful but there are many other criminal activities taking place in the nation and officers are doing nothing.”

In contrast another person praised the officers and said “Good job by authorities and should continue to take strict measures to tackle crime activities.”

The residents of the St Vincent and the Grenadines have urged the administration to implement strict plans with the motive to curb increasing crime rates in the nation. The authorities have also shared their vision to ensure the security and safety of the citizens of the island nation.
