St Lucia: St Lucia Labour Party stated that rising death rates continue amidst UWP’s failed COVID-19 response.
March 13, 2021, marked one year since St Lucia reported its first COVID-19 Case. One year on, Saint Lucia has now exceeded 4,000 total covid-19 cases and 55 deaths.
Over the weekend, SLP sadly reported another seven new deaths in just two days. Each life lost represents more pain and wretchedness for families, friends, and loved ones.
St Lucia has reported more deaths than all of the OECS lands combined. Put another way, since the initiation of the year, and we have reported 50 coronavirus-related deaths; in effect, an end every 35 hours.
We have become a nation in mourning, a grieving country with losses due to coronavirus being experienced on top of the increasing loss of lives from suicides and homicides.
Furthermore, SLP added, “Our citizens continue to hold steadfast knowing that their chance to exhale is near.”
The Saint Lucia Labour Party deplores the continued appalling state of healthcare in Saint Lucia, only heightened by the UWP Government’s approach to lethal coronavirus.
It is an approach distinguished by seeking profit first and the welfare of the population after. To date, we have obtained approximately $400 million in the name of lethal coronavirus. Still, the Administration seems more committed to schemes for their election campaign and lining pockets than keeping coronavirus patients breathing, helping children get correlated to their teachers, and keeping food on the tables of St Lucian homes where many remain jobless.
For this uncaring UWP government, health and wellbeing continue to be victims of electioneering and optical deceptions. “St Lucians deserve better, a Management who cares and who puts them first,” SLP added.
SLP has always worked towards helping the youth of Saint Lucia excel in the world of sports by introducing various programmes & reforms.
