Giving a significant boost to local Caribbean airline St Kitts and Nevis government has made a decision to waive off $11 million debt owed to the federation by LIAT, the Caribbean airline.

St Kitts and Nevis: Giving a significant boost to local Caribbean airline St Kitts and Nevis government has made a decision to waive off $11 million debt owed to the federation by LIAT, the Caribbean airline.
Addressing this matter Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Timothy Harris said that the debt relief was made in a view to a request by the liquidator. According to his social media post, To reorganise the airline, the government of Antigua and Barbuda has decided to restructure it.
PM Harris said that the decision recognised the “ill health” of the local air carrier. He added that it also reassures St Kitts and Nevis’ pledge to regional integration and regional tour.
In his monthly press briefing at NEMA conference room, PM Timothy Harris said that government affirm that LIAT is the largest air carrier supporting intraregional travel across the Caribbean region, “without LIAT there is a major void that has a significant impact on the ease of the movement of citizens, residents, and visitors to the region.”
He further said that LIAT airline has faced significant challenges in the past, and the government believes that they should take this position in the best interest of the public of the nation and region as a whole.
The topical carrier retorted to the air on a decreased commercial schedule on Monday (November 30, 2020). It will run flights to and from the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport in St. Kitts on Saturdays only in the beginning stage.
