St Kitts and Nevis: Samal Duggins Meets expert ahead of introducing Medicinal Canabbis Bill in Parliament

Minister Samal Duggins visited the Cannabis research expert Machel Emanuel. This visit comes weeks before the introduction of the Medicinal cannabis law in the country’s Parliament.

Minister of agriculture in the government of St Kitts and Nevis, Samal Duggins, is on a multi-day visit to meet and interact with various farmers and stakeholders in the Agriculture industry. Recently, Minister Duggins visited the Cannabis research expert Machel Emanuel. This visit comes weeks before the introduction of the Medicinal cannabis law in the country’s Parliament. He also shared the update for this visit and interaction on his social media.

The government of St Kitts and Nevis, headed by Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew, have planned to create a fully functional medicinal Cannabis Industry in St Kitts and Nevis. The government has held several discussions since the first few cabinet meetings. The Minister of Agriculture shared that the ministry is ready to introduce the Cannabis Amendment Bill to the Parliament in a few weeks.

The members of the Parliament will debate the law in the assembly. This, in turn, will help streamline the medicinal cannabis industry. Samal Duggins further explained that As the Minister responsible for agriculture, it is part of my duty to ensure that our cannabis growers are in the best possible position to enter and compete in this billion-dollar industry.

In line with this, Minister Samal Duggins has contacted Dr Machel Emanuel, the Principle Investigator of the Life Science Cannabis Research Group at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus. During the minister of agriculture’s trip to Jamaica, Dr Emanuel graciously gave Minister Samal Duggins a comprehensive tour of this amazing facility.

Meanwhile, Minister Duggins noted in his social media update that Dr Emanuel is an award-winning expert in cannabis production, including special strains and quality assurance. He also expressed that he was blown away by the University of West Indies operations and his perspective on the way forward.
