Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, who also serves as the Minister of Finance, shared an update regarding the temporary concessions at the taxes on the school supplies.

According to him, this programme can be counted as a way by the St Kitts and Nevis Labour Party Administration to touch the lives of the general public of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis. He outlined that the government of St Kitts and Nevis, under her leadership, has been directly reaching out to the public.

Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew was quoted saying, “This initiative is one of the ways undertaken by our administration since assuming office, in addition to free tuition for all students at Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College and free uniforms and textbooks for qualifying households.”

He further emphasised that his Administration would make sure that no child within the Federation would be left without education. He mentioned that education is foundational to the Sustainable Island State agenda of the Administration.

The Government of St Kitts and Nevis has recently announced that the Federal Cabinet of Ministers has decided to make the taxes on school supplies ‘zero’. As per the official update, the concession will be temporary and will be between the period of July 10, 2023 (Monday) and September 30, 2023 (Saturday).

It is worth mentioning that this decision has been taken under the initiative by the Dr Terrance Drew-led St Kitts Nevis Labour Party Administration to ease the financial pressure on the general public of the Federation. Under this government-approved scheme, special focus has been given to particularly single-parent households having school-aged children.

The benefits of this programme can be achieved by all, including all importers, commercial and non-commercial population.

The government of St Kitts and Nevis further enhanced that the Customs and Excise Department should be contacted for the full listing of eligible school supplies and other related inquiries at 1 (869) 466-7227. Persons can also visit the department’s website at https://skncustoms.com for more details, the Administration of the Federation stated.
