St Kitts and Nevis: Major renovations in fisheries sector to drive $15 million revenue
Minister Duggins highlighted the continuous efforts undertaken by them including major upgrades and renovations which played an essential role in benefitting the Fisheries sector to a great extent.

St Kitts and Nevis is expecting to mark another significant milestone by recording $15 million revenue in the Fisheries Sector of the island nation. The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine Resources, Samal Duggins highlighted the major growth to be witnessed and focused at their determination to bring growth and resilience in each sector of the country.
Minister Duggins highlighted the continuous efforts undertaken by them including major upgrades and renovations which played an essential role in benefitting the Fisheries sector to a great extent.
He also shed light on his conversations with the fisherfolks and said that the upgrades made by them in the Fisheries sector have played a huge role in increasing productivity and enhancing a supportive working environment for all.
Minister Samal Duggins also highlighted a major renovation of the fisheries complexes in Basseterre and Old Road. The upgrades made in the complex included, structural improvements, refreshed ambiance, and crucial new equipment, such as the highly anticipated ice machine in Old Road and a fully functional fish depot.
The Minister said that these transformations made by them have played a crucial role in bringing positive impact on the sustainability of the industry. He also reiterated his commitment to continue to make efforts with a vision to enhance and improve the growth of Fisheries sector.
Minister Duggins noted that this record-breaking revenue of over $15 million registered by them is the highest in the last 10 years. He also acknowledged the contribution by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis and every member for working hard and making efforts to improve the productivity of the Fisheries sector of the island nation.
The Minister also said that they are committed to support the fisherfolks of St Kitts and Nevis by providing them with essential resources and equipment required by them for bringing a positive change and development in the Fisheries sector of the country.
He also said that they will continue to invest, aiming to bring the growth and resilience in the essential sectors of St Kitts and Nevis. The authorities will also host an exciting week of activities and events to celebrate the World Fisheries Day and Marine Expo from 17th– 24th November, 2024.
The Department of Marine Resources of St Kitts and Nevis will begin their celebration with Church Service and will conclude with Fish Festival and Expo on Sunday, 24th November, 2024. In between, the authorities will host several exciting events, aiming to celebrate the importance of sustainable fisheries and marine conservation.
